Swing Transport – At the Beach

Going to the beach for the grandest of causes.

Remember those that went and never returned.

June 6th, 1944

Normandy, France – Operation Overlord

The morning of June 6th, 1944 saw the largest Amphibious Operation of all time take place.  Almost 7,000 naval ships and more than 150,000 troops crossed the English Channel to free France (and Europe) from the stranglehold of Hitler’s Germany.  Allied casualties were over 10,000 although that number is only an estimate and casualties is believed to be much higher.  Four thousand four hundred and thirteen servicemen were lost.

WWII changed the world more than any event of the twentieth century.  It is unimaginable to think of what would have happened if Hitler had been allowed to continue his atrocities.
