Safety at Swing Transport: A Core Commitment
At Swing Transport, safety is more than a priority — it’s a core value embedded in every aspect of our operations.
We employ a full-time Director of Safety to lead our comprehensive safety program. Our Director is certified by both the North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI) and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is a former Chairman of the North Carolina Safety Council.
Most importantly, our Director is a long-time Swing Transport employee who has risen through the ranks, offering a unique understanding of safety from a driver’s perspective.
Safety Starts with Hiring
We believe driver safety begins with the hiring process. Each applicant undergoes a thorough screening, including:
-
- Detailed Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks
-
- Accident history evaluation
-
- A comprehensive road test
-
- Verification of a minimum two years of tractor-trailer experience
All applicants must receive approval from a Company Officer before being hired.
Structured Driver Onboarding
Upon hire, new drivers are assigned to a local Driver Trainer who rides along for a minimum of three days to evaluate the driver’s skills and readiness.
The Driver Trainer will then:Â
-
- Recommend the driver for full fleet duty
-
- Suggest additional training if needed
-
- Or request a ride-along evaluation by our Director of Safety before approval
No driver is released for regular duty without a recommendation from the Driver Trainer.
Ongoing Safety Monitoring & Training
Our safety program includes periodic ride-alongs for all drivers — regardless of their experience or accident history.
During these sessions, we:
-
- Monitor for unsafe habits or areas for improvement
-
- Offer additional training as needed to maintain high safety standards
This proactive approach ensures every driver continues to meet our company’s safety expectations.
